Naruto is an ongoing Japanese major export manga series that has been a hit in Japan and neiboring countries but nowadays it has found substantial success in the American market,
Naruto itself began in 1999 as a manga series in Shonen Jump, written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. The plot tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, an adolescent ninja who constantly searches for recognition and aspires to become a Hokage, the ninja in his village that is acknowledged as the leader and the strongest of all. The series is based on a one-shot comic by Kishimoto that was published in the August 1997 issue of Akamaru Jump.

Naruto was first produced for television in 2002 and has been on the air ever since. Now one of the Naruto movies that premiered in Japan in 2004 ,is finally set to make its U.S debut on June 6, 2007. Since its debut, Naruto has spawned 220 episodes and three movies in Japan, and continuously airs new episodes even now each week.

The plot tells the story of Orphaned as a child Naruto Uzumaki, an adolescent ninja who constantly searches for recognition and aspires to become a Hokage, the ninja in his village that is acknowledged as the leader and the strongest of all. Naruto powers are at first limited, but when unleashed, he has full control of all the chi harnessed by that evil spirit, the nine-tailed cat demon. Once he reaches a certain age, Naruto graduates from ninja school and is taken as one of three team members by Kakashi with his peers Sasuke (a heated rival) and Sakura (his hopeless love interest). The three are sent on various missions and compete in Chunin (the next rank) exams together.

Naruto has become one of the company’s best-selling manga series. The English adaptation of the series has also appeared in the USA Today Booklist several times and volume 11 won the Quil Award in 2006. Reviewers from the series have praised the balance between fighting and comedy scenes, The show is a series of fantasy infused ninja style fights, but running through it is a strong comedic vibe, always making jokes at Naruto’s and his opponents’ expense. The dynamic between Naruto and his friends especially is a source of humor throughout the show.
